High-Resolution Imaging and Structural Analysis of Membrane Proteins

Lipid bilayer-Supported specimen Electron Microscopy (LSEM), a patented technology developed through the founder's invention, enables simple high-resolution imaging of membrane proteins within lipid bilayers. Additionally, "cryo-LSEM," a technique combining LSEM with cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), makes 3D reconstruction possible at low concentrations around 0.03 mg/ml, which is difficult to achieve with existing methods.

Reduced Required Sample Purity

Even with low-purity samples that have limited yield and can only be purified up to the affinity chromatography stage, the membrane proteins are further purified when embedded in the lipid bilayer within the grid, enabling 3D reconstruction through single particle analysis (SPA) in cryo-LSEM.

Reduction of Required Sample Concentration and Volume

Because membrane proteins are concentrated in the lipid bilayer, 3D reconstruction by cryo-LSEM is possible even with low-concentration and small-amount samples.

Expanded Analysis Scope

Cryo-LSEM can handle structural analysis of large membrane protein complexes that were difficult to analyze with nanodiscs.
